worcester 24i combi ..coming on for a second over and over

Had a firend out to this boiler that IS gas safe, but has not long been out, so he IS perfectly safe but not very experienced.


the boiler with a demand fan runs, pump runs, sparks, flame comes on for a second then goes out, the flame will then keep going on off on off over and over for ten to twenty times until it finally stays put, he has said its the gas valve, and is going to get one this week, i just wanted a second opinion,

it seems to happen more often in the morning.

no fault code, just flame on, drops out, back on, drops out, over and over until it stays on,

okay, is it as simple as that is this a common problem ?

seemed strange as it sometimes lights for a second then goes off and on again 20 or so times until staying alight
other times it may take ONE or two attempts

Have your Gas Safe buddy check relay RL1 on the circuit board which has a clear plastic housing (turn off power first!!). If you see black carbon deposits within the relay it may need replacing. Megabucks for the PCB, £4 for the relay

In that case, it appears you have a flame rectification problem.

Id go for faulty relay on pcb too, them boilers are well known for been crap!, never had to change many gas valves on them though!
