I went to one of these yesterday.

This boiler is only six months old but has been installed on a temporary basis by non registered builders and with a dangerously located flue terminal.

The manufacturer's staff engineer visited it before it stopped working at all. They refused to make any repairs under the warranty on account of the way its been fitted.

The boiler appears to be ready to work and the fan runs slowly but it will not proceed with the ignition sequence but does not show any fault indications.

All the external connections to the PCB seem to be correctly configured and test OK. This model has virtually no user input without a diagnostic connection.

I have concluded that the PCB or just possibily the fan is faulty but with that kind of owner I am not very inclined to get heavily involved.

Does anyone have any suggestions why its hanging at that point? Is that an encountered PCB failure?

you mention dangerous though, surely you are not going to repair the thing without sorting the intallation issues?

I used the term "dangerous" rather sparingly.

In reality it will work OK and not create a danger to anything or anyone.

The flue is now about 300 mm below the top of a single story extension and the gap containing the flue is only about 300 mm wide between the owner and the neighbour's extension.

Its totally wrong from several aspects however there are 100s of both CORGI and non-CORGI who will be prepared to replace a part and get it going again.

This is a typical Owner who is prepared to get a poor job done at minimum cost otherwise he could have called me to fit the boiler for £800 whereas he presumably had it fitted for £100 by the east European builder.

Interestingly, the Benchmark for the unvented is completed by what I assume is the same installer as the boiler.

I rather relish the idea of him living for a few days without heating or DHW because of his money saving tactics.

I will discuss it with him tomorrow!

yep thats gonna be a nice efficient boiler.. from what i understand of the location.

and why put your name to this for the sake of what £100 profit :?:

I would normally deal with the situation by doing the repair and writing out a Warning Notice which he signs and I then leave it switched off.

What he does after I leave is not my concern!

The sad fact is that there are hundreds of both CORGI and non-CORGI who would fix it and leave it working without any comment. Few would even look at the flue!

At least I formally record the installation faults and notify him. However he is very clever and knows he has saved £700 on the installation so a little extra to get it fixed is still leaving him with a hefty saving. Such a pity that there is nothing I can do about this senario which I encounter several time a week.

Ive had one do exactly that..............it was the PCB
Yep I have had one aswell Agile

Incedently it was when I went to put it in servicing mode to check flue gas ratio that it decided to have a fit.(pressed chimney sweep for 10 secs)
Typical if I hadnt touched the bloody thing like everyone else then it probably wouldnt have happened.
Anway luckily it was under warrenty (just) and Worcester came out.

Thanks folks for that confirmation that this is indeed a PCB fault and apparently quite a common one too.

Oddly the only time that I got it to advance was when I engaged the flue sweep 10 sec button and the fan speeded up as if it was going to ignite but it went no further and then went back the the fan slow mode.

I do have to say that strictly speaking the Manufacturer's are under an obligation to repair the unit ( Sale of Goods ) even if the flue is wrongly installed. However I dont think I will be reminding the owner about that as I dont have much time for owners who intentionally use non-reg East Europeans.
