worcester greenstar boiler- no power, no lights

Hi All

I have a worcester greenstar utility 18-25kw oil condensing boiler.
I have recently bought the property and I have never used it, it will not work despite being about a year old.

I have had my fair share of problems since buying, No oil, burst pipes and no when I try and test it there is nothing happening.
I have changed the central heating pump as the old one leaked was ancient, all I did was re-plumb it and wire it in. Direct swap.

I have read the small user guide on the boiler. Press the reset buttons (boiler overheat and flue overheat) and check the burner control box. There is no sign of any life.

I have tested for power going to the boiler OK and I have tested for power going to the wires that connect to the burner control box OK but the boiler is dead as a dodo.

Help. Please

There's usually a fuse located on the pcb...3.15 amp if memory serves?

I wonder if you could be on to something there as before I changed the pump, it shorted out due to water from a burst pipe.

Would you have any idea where the PCB is? I didn't notice it staring me in the face.

The pcb is enclosed in the box behind the temperature knob...I've a feeling that it can be hinged downwards once the top of the boiler is lifted clear.

I can't find the effin fuse. There only box I can see is the Bertone one which I think is the burner control box. I took this out and could not see any fuses in the black box underneath.
Where am I going wrong? Is it well covered up?

There's no fuse in the burner control box...thats the one with the reset button on that you press.
The one I'm on about is on the top front panel of the boiler, behind the temperature thermostat knob. On most boilers like these, the pcb is inside this, with all the associated wires plugged into it.
Have a look at the Worcester Bosch website...under obsolete oil burners there is data which you can down load. It may help.

On the front panel there is the temperature control knob that links into a couple of switches and wires that plug into the burner control box. The other wires in there are the mains coming in.Will it be in this area somewhere?

Had a quick look earlier on some websites but it only mentions plug fuses.
Will have another search.

That should be in the right area...I'm hunting about for data myself and cant find any info about the internal wiring - just the external.

I have taken the top front and both sides off!
I cant find a PCB!? Will it be sealed up in plastic do you think?
There is plastic sealed box underneath the burner control but i think it just relates to the burner control.
Surely can't be that hard to find!

2 knobs for HW / CH temp
2 lamps Boiler lockout / power on
A pressure gauge
A timer panel?
(I'm just looking at a CD Rom for the actual boiler...this is listed as the Greenstar Heatslave Utility 18 -25 floor standing condensing oil boiler)
Is this the one?

I have one temperature knob and if I look underneath there are a couple of bits of thread poking out.
There are no lamps! No pressure gauge!

Ok mate and thanks for that...the manual is useless, huh?
My data doesn't cover that particular boiler, for some reason.
However...looking at other utility models - the live (coming in to the appliance) has to pass trough a 'Flue stat' (manually reset) then into a 'Heating stat' (auto reset), into another Heating stat (manually reset) and finally into a Control stat (presumably the knob on the front) before the burner gets power......
All of these stats have to be conducting, or on, before the juice gets through, as they are all wired in series.
I suspect that one of them is not.
I am sorry to have wasted your time on this - its not what you need!

Pah! Burnerman John you are a credit to your profession mate.

Is it likely that it is still the PCB? My knowdledge on boilers is shameful, must it have one!?

Then manual states
press rset button C and D, check for power or call someone. Does not mention a fuse.

I can try and test for power to the flue and heater stats.

Any other ideas ????

Looking at it another way, what is the minimum amount for a boiler to work, i.e have light to the burner lockout. That is all I need for starters, a light on somewhere, so:

1.A power supply to the boiler (I have that comes in from FCU) tested.
2.Power supply to the burner lockout switch (I took the cable that is clipped inot the control knob area and tested the power- This is OK.

What else?

Is there a sensor for oil and water?

Help!
