WORCESTER GREENSTAR HIGHFLOW 440

Does anyone know where I can find the technical manual of this boiler? I couldn't find it on the Worcester website.

There are a few things I have read on this forum which I am a bit confused about so am hoping the manual (or someone here!) can clarify!

1) Their website states that the boiler provides 20 litres/min at 35'C but as I like my showers a bit hotter than this then I want to know what the output is at something like 40-45'C

2) I read on here that the boiler requires a water input temperature of 10'C. So what happens in winter when the water input is less than this?

3) If I can only get 20 litres/min for the 51 litres of internal storage water (a shower for 2 minutes?!), what happens after this?

4) Can two showers be run at once? If I only get 20 litres/min for the 51 litres, that won't last long.

This boiler is being replaced with a new version sometime in the Autumn,WB won't say when exactly.

Eighteen liters at 40 degree C

that didnt last long. whats the bet the new version will have that stupid cylindrical h/e.

The new boiler coming out is not a replacement, but an addition to give installers/homeowners the option of an even bigger kw combi that pushes out even more hot water. Mind you will have to have a good pressure feed from the mains and the plumber will have to think of the pipework runs etc.

To clear another thing up, the tank you can see on the left handside isnt full of water that comes out of the tap, but it is used to heat the mains water indirectly through a plate heat ex combined with the 30kw boiler. This is what gives you the higher flow rates. It will heat up 12lpm if the tank is empty, this is still very good.

The hot water temp rise, is the temp rise you should expect over 180litres, which is roughly 2 baths. If the mains coming in is 10degs you should be able to run 180litres in to a huge bath put your liquid temp probe in the bath and find it 38 degs higher than the cold water main.

A thermostatic mixer shower uses roughly 8 litres per minute of water, if the plumbing is correct you should be able to run 2 showers simultaneously, providing you have the mains pressure. My vast experience with this boiler is very good.

Highflow 440 is being upgraded to give more flexible flueing options, it is very limited at the moment.

A Highflow 550 launch is imminent; this should give the Vaillant 937 a good caning.

We have found the 440 to be Worcester's most reliable boiler of late. As someone else here says, the recharge time is so low as to not be significant in most domestic situations.

The last two we fitted, we had to boost the water supply to get the full performance.

The 35 temp rise is a misnomer, most boilers are set up for 42C temp rise on incoming mains temp. So the actual flow rate is slightly lower than quoted, but at a higher temperature.

If I was the OP I might wait until I'd seen a 550 before spending my cash.

Thanks all! You have been a wealth of information,

If you want backup (is the new 550 equipped with an immersion?), fit an in-line electric instant water heater serving one tap and one shower. It will get you wet and serve saym, the sink. The combi outlet runs straight through it and it is off unless the combi is down. They are small and about £100. Then you still have a proper mixer and powerful shower too.

The new models, Highflow 440 Cdi and 550Cdi, plus some floor standing non-combi versions , will use the better regarded Junkers rectangular HE.

The 550CDi will have a flow rate of 25l/m and will be a 42Kw appliance.

25 l/min? Very nice. All in one washing machine sized box too. A pity they are not running the CH from the thermal store. I assume the CH is run direct from the modulating burner heat exchanger.

The 440 is already 20 litres/min, which is very good.

Hello,

Where can I find out more information on this Worcester 550CDi? Most important is the size for me as the 440 just about fits into the loft (the height is the issue for me, not the width).

No information yet,we are all waiting with baited breath on it's release.

Should be the same size as the current boiler but sticking one of these in a loft is not something I would consider to be honest.

I am not sure which model but the last of the non condensing ( 400 ? ).

Fan failed after about one year and was replaced under warranty.

I went after three years and the replacement fan was failed yet again. Not a god sign of a reliable boiler.

I even went to a one WEEK old Worcester wall mount, last of the non condensing, with a failed fan! It just seemed to have badly worn bearings! But after just one week?

Tony
