It seems that the diverter valve on my Hiflow 4.5 has gone t*ts up ( got hot water but none to the central heating) For various reasons I cannot have this valve replaced at the moment, but wonder in the light of the weather getting warmer (and on a short term temporary basis ie; couple of months) if I can use the manual override lever underside of the diverter valve to give me heat to my radiators? Is this possible? Are there any dangers in doing this?

Thanks for that confirmation, when I eventually change the diverter is it a complete system drain down?

No just drain system pressure shut all auto air valves, but you can also just change the sycron motor/power head, with no need to drain.

Thanks changing the sycron motor & powerhead looks like the way for me
to go.
Whipped the cover off and had a quick look:

I can only see what appears to be one mounting screw over the motor shaft / valve interface. Are there more? Will the motor draw straight out from the valve shaft spline (assuming it's a spline) or is there a keyway or securing pin? Any other tips or things to watch out for? Finally will I be able to buy the motor / powerhead from somewhere like boiler spares in Stockport?
Thanks for your advice and help.[/img]

just remove the one screw then withdraw motor, slighly sideways.

I've never tried replacing the Synchron motor in the diverter of a High Flow...

Your picture certainly shows a Synchron-type motor but not (I believe) the 'generic' item you can buy for a tenner or so. The base looks different but it's hard to tell.

Problem is that the ACL Invensys actuator IS sold as a complete unit but maybe that's not what's used inside the High Flow. The ACL part number from the boiler manual (6798 - NOT the WB part no) does not match up with the actuator on the diverter valve sold as a retail item.

(Further confusion (on my part!) arose because WB changed diverter valve supplier from Bosch to Invensys ACL at some point between the 400 and 4.5 HighFlows)

Just fit a bog standard 3 wire acl diverter, replaces both valves.

Will the 'standard' 3-port, 3-wire valve fit in place of the Bosch diverter? (I guess the 4.5 model High Flows are rare and getting rarer but the 400 models are more common and probably starting to need lots of replacement diverters!) The latest Greenstar High Flow looks like it's completely different animal - but I've yet to see one installed.

OK Thanks all of you for taking the time to give your advice, will get the syncro motor / powerhead and let you know how it works out

bear in mind when its in Central heating position you wont get How water.

It's turned out that when I activate the manual lever on the diverter, I get normal hot water and Ch rads are normal hot on first floor and nearly hot on ground floor (boilers on second floor)
For some reason my system pressure keeps edging up to 2.5 bar but I vent that pressure down with the relief valve each day.

then stop before you shaft the valve (if you havent already)

I was refering to the safety relief valve with spring loaded hand turn knob. Venting isn't straining it mechanically, half turn vents the pressure.
