We're buying a large, four-bedroom Edwardian house that has a Worcester Highflown 400 Electronic combination boiler installed.

Will these need replacing any time soon (besides it failing) i.e. will it be provide enough hot water for a couple with a toddler? I know it's not the most energy efficient boiler but surely keeping it going has to be cheaper than replacing?

It will certainly give enough hot water if it's working properly. That and it's future longevity would be down to how it's been looked after over the years, which no one on here can advise you on.
If it's working ok for now start thinking about putting some money aside for replacement when it does go t*ts up.

Thanks....

Any advice on how best to look after it or any future boiler going forward?

Most I come across have failed because of dirt in the system.

Those that are clean are surprisingly reliable and usually only failing diverter valves are seen every 10 years or so.

The good news is that the latest models are roughly similar in size and weight but not an easy replacement as pipework connections are different. So not an easy roll in !

Not so popular to work on though and many engineers will want to persuade you to have a replacement boiler!

Tony - stupid question I know but what do you mean they get dirt in them? Is this from limescale/hard water or something else?

What can I do to maximise the life of my boiler?

Its sludge caused by lack of cleaning at install etc.

Formed by oxidisation of steel in rads.
