Has anyone worked for the council as a plumber? Do you get more on top of your salary for being on call/ over time? Thank you

Ours worked, and still does for being on call:
standby payment (for days or full week working)regardless of whether called out or not and hourly rate.
Council (ours anyway) callout is quite generous.
Time and half from when finished up til midnight, then double time after midnight until 6am.
Sleep time of half a day (4 hours) if called out after midnight
Double time on a Sunday or bank holiday with the later getting a day back in lieu.
Additional 1/5th rate after 8pm (unsocial hours)
Christmas can be a pain, we get paid a premium standby on top of normal standby
Overtime must be agreed by both parties for payment, otherwise it’s time back in lieu

Thank you for such a detailed response. So can you earn abit more then the salary with the call out rota?
Absolutely. I can earn an additional £10k on call on top of salary

If say contacted to 37hours. Do they ever let you do those over 4 days?
They would need to consider it and whether it would suit the business, however our callout rota is a full week inc weekend. The only one that isn’t is because someone came off callout and that week gets split up

ours paid about 200 just for being on call then paid per job called out on top

Do they give you a percentage of it when on holiday , They should by law
I think so. We get something every 3 months I think, unless it’s just when I’ve had annual leave and it is on the payslip as holiday, sure it relates to callout.

It would be fitting bathroom and the plumbing for kitchens, possible wet rooms too. I was kind of hoping it was mainly repairs work.
