Hi everyone. I am building a wooden workshop at the moment. It has a wooden floor using 8"x2" tanalised timber. It is sitting on 5 brick walls I built using class b engineering bricks with a damp proof course in it.

My question is, do I need to put any kind of membrane in between the timber and the bricks? A bulder told me I should staple some plastic sheeting such as DPM to the under side of the timber and staple it to the sides. Is this needed?

Many thanks.

If the joists are sitting in the wall then wrap the ends with thick polythene or DPC. If you use hangers then you need no extra damp prevention measures (other than to treat the cut ends with preservative)

If the joists are sitting on any wall, then there should be a DPC between the joist and the wall

You don't need polythene under the whole lot

Don't forget your air bricks to ventilate the floor void
