Hi

Builder putting down foundations for a 3.5m wide times 3.0m deep lean to. The thing is the block foundations seem to be so wide that er indoors thinks that we won't be a able to swing a cat let alone put a sofa and TV in there!1

Is 3.5 wide times 3.0 deep fairly common?

Thanks

Big enough for most of us. Remember, if you are using up your PDR you are restricted.

Thanks.

Sorry to be ignorant but what does PDR stand for in this context?

When you see the excavation, with the small mound of earth left in the middle, people tend to equate that mound with the size of the room; 3.5x3.0 will give you a reasonably-sized extra space

It's like building a pond. Once it's finished you always wished you had done it a bit bigger.

Thanks again.

Just getting a bit neurotic about this. Went to my brothers last night pacing up and down measuring his lean to! (more like 4.0m wide!)

People certainly tend to forget about the thickness of the walls. This will get worse as insulation thicknesses are increased. Its partly the fault of the generally small houses in this country. Thus the American visitor who announces that your living room is the size of their "closet" !
However "outside" spaces always seem smaller than inside spaces.
But also, unfurnished spaces seem a lot larger the furnished.
The resultant room is always too small ... ;)
Simon.
