Hi,

Looking at replacing the old boiler (and I don’t mean the mother-in-law :) ).

Someone has recommended a Viessmann Vitodens with a Weather Compensation module. Looks pretty pricy! However, if I save the percentages that the brochures reckon then it may be money well spent. Was wondering if anyone is familiar with this kit and if you would recommend them or not?

I'm also open to other manufacturer suggestions.

Thanks very much,
Glenn

Whenever the question is asked on here about which is the best boiler, the consensus seems to be that Viessman is about the best.

Yes, its a little more expensive, but a Mercedes is more expensive than a Vauxhall for the same reason.

I dont rate it as that much different but if I fit one then it has a five years warrantee whcih Worcester and Vaillant boilers dont!

That a reason why I will often suggest them.

I'd like to know if a Vitodens 200-W with Lambda control and 109% nett efficiency (Hi) is worth the extra dosh.

So you go on a viessman installers day and they allow you to give a five year warranty?? Very thorough of them! do they check these installers work after letting them loose on the public?
Or does everyone get a five year warranty from a manufacturer new to the uk. I should like to see a viessman in 12 years time then i will rate it as a boiler!
Going back through old posts on here installers fall in and out of love with all sorts of crap boilers. I wonder how we ll refer to intergas and viessmans in the next few years. Maybe they'll leak like sieves or maybe they won't. at least with Worcester and vaillant there is a long line of proven boilers and technology.
Worcester as you well know give 5 year warranties for their competent proven quality engineers.

Worcester Tupperware Bosch has a history of making boilers full of plastic, that breaks very easily after time.

History lesson req'd !

240, 280, 350 ( tens of thousands still going now)

i junior i, cdi ( millions still around now)

He He plus condensers- I personallyrate these as the best gas boiler ever produced. Fitted loads, never fix em ...ten years on!

So bore off with you ridiculus comment! you ll be saying next the celtic IS the best boiler ever manufactured!

Just done one, and it runs like a dream. Even my mate who is a lifelong Potty supporter was impressed.

But the most important factor: the quality of your installer. The best boiler in the world installed by a cowboy will have many problems.

A typical remark of someone who doesn't have clue about materials. Polymer "plastics" like used by Glock for their frames are pound for pound 7 times stronger than standard construction steel.

Probably best to ignore RichieHoneybucket,
he is a known troll who has been barred a number of times, and this is his latest alias.
He has never worked in the trade in any way shape or form.

Thanks for all the posts guys.

One more question: My current boiler is rated at 14.7kw output but it's under powered for my house. I'm therefore looking at the 19kw or 26kw. There isnt a massive difference in price. However is it worth going for a bigger boiler or is that a waste of money\fuel?

Is it similar to my analogy of car engine sizes? I.e. you thrash a 1L, 2L is ok, 4L will burn a hole in your pocket (but it will get you there quicker!) :)

Cheers

It's not hard to be impressed by any other boiler if you think pottertons are good, they do the promax, even a ferroli is reliable and well built compared to that! ;-)

Funny, I was looking at one of their heat pumps with a client last week, Christ, I could smell the build quality of it!!

However, there's so many other gas boiler manufacturers offering the same kit for a lot less money. We never fit their gas boilers.

Why would a customer be looking at heat pumps with you your'e not MCS registered and you havent a clue about heat pumps :?

He is a nice guy, and a good engineer, but in all honesty, a bit of a stick in the mud. Potties were the best boilers 30 years ago, so they still are.
