xp usb input

My son has lost the dialog box that appears when a memory stick or camera is inserted into a usb port giving the options etc.there is a tick box that he must have accidently ticked the last time it appeared asking if this option will be performed every time a usb input is activated.Any ideas how to rest this box. running xp home.

Connect the external storage device you want to use.
open my computer, the device should be listed in the external storage devices.
right click on it and click on properties.
You will see a tab called Autoplay. Click on that.
now you will see 2 options, prompt each time i insert the device is the option you need to select and click on save or Ok.
stop the device, remove it and restart the computer.
now reconnect the storage device and check if you get those options.
it should work.

Thanks for the info lilypotter but going to that box the "prompt me every time box" was already highlighted however problem solved as he can now open his pictures from the "my computer" box

It's generally reckoned best to disable autorun/autoplay and use 'My Computer' to access disks and USB sticks. Autorun/autoplay is a convenient feature but it can pose a security risk.
