Yale room sensor keeps flashing

I came home last night to hear a beeping sound which I eventually tracked down to be our Yale room sensor giving a low battery warning - I duly changed the batteries, but the sensor wouldn't stop flashing its red 'cylon' eye. Also the main unit keeps saying that the sensor's been tampered with and has a low battery - I've tried removing and then reinstalling the sensor by pressing the small button on the front of it, but it's still making no difference - does this mean I have to buy a new sensor every time it needs new batteries?!?

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I've tried turning the main unit off at the wall, but it makes no difference at all. :(

Have you checked the battery is good? They have a shelf life.
