(Yet) More Elfin Safety nonsense

Health and safety is about keeping halfwits in highly paid jobs that we fund in one way or another

one kid at our school nearly got his neck broken when a particularly rough game of football ended up with someone grabbing his flailing tie to try and stop him..

I understand the concerns regarding ties but I wore one for over 5 years at school and never came to harm.
If we were to remove ALL dangerous items/activities/equipment from life we would never progress. There is an element of danger in every walk of life and it is necessary. How would Hilary and Tensing have conquered Everest? How would America have been discovered? If you remove ALL danger, potntial or otherwise, then we may as well climb in to our beds and curl up to die.
What next? Our army given plastic hammers to hit the enemy over the head with? Give me strength!

Just because an accident hasnt happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen, better to be safe than sorry as its too late after the event.

Do you really believe that bit of nonsense?
if you refer to what i said as nonsense then i have to ask the question do you understand what health and safety is??

No one as yet, has provided any evidence that a child has hung themselves with their tie.

One can dream up many ways to prevent death or injuries, by silly legislation.

As approximately 150 children a year are killed by running onto a road, we should replace all trainers with lead boots weighing roughly 40lb each.
Thus at a stroke removing any chance of this happening.

It should be made compulsory, that a trained medic should be on hand when any child eats, thus preventing any choking deaths.

Life is to be lived, and their will always be risks.
If the health and safety numpties had their way, we would become a nation of controlled wimps.

Tim I live and work in the real world and yes i do no what its all about.

remind us what you do???

Suicide is something totally different we are talking accidents here and Coljack mentioned an incident with a tie earlier on.

There are many people that don't understand the reason H&S was put into place.

There was a need to stop or lessen the amount of serious injuries and deaths that were occurring in industry

Child falls into quicksand.

Rescuer cant quite reach.

Undo your tie and throw it to me, tie the other end around your wrist.

Child gets pulled free.

Hurrah!

Wouldn't have worked with a clip-on though. :(

....and the likelihood of the above happening...

Why is it that those against H&S make up situations that try to justify their argument?

Now if you want scenarios how about having an employer tell you to climb up a drainpipe to fix something and if you dont you are sacked, would you climb that drainpipe?
