zafira overheating

need help zafira heater blowing cold, temp rising & overheating ive removed thermostat prob still the same, wot could the problem be any advice appricated

I'd say water pump.

Get it recovered to garage as some Zafiras are cam belt driven water pumps. If the pump fails completly then serious engine damage may occur.

is there any way of checking if the water pump is working

One of three things :
1. heater control valve is stuck. this doesnt allow it to switch over to 'heat'.
2. there is blockage in the heater core, not allowing fluid to circulate thru it, thus not sending heat to the cab.
3. the thermostat is stuck open. thus the coolant is constantly flowing and does not have time to heat up the way it should for heater use.

I would check the control valve first. Hope this helps...........
