Zanussi built in dishwasher not draining at end of cycle

My dishwasher completes its cycle then stops before it drains and dries leaving a couple of inches of water in the bottom.

If you mean there is water left in the machine during the drying cycle then this is usual. It dries by heating this water to get the inside really hot then pumps it out.

thanks for the reply but no, the machine does not reach the drying cycle.
It does the wash (some of it then just stops. the only way to empty it is to set it off on another run but open the door and switch off after it has emptied but before it fills up for the next wash .....

any ideas what's gone wrong?

Does it heat at all,
Typical wash sequence

Drain
Fill and cold rinse
Drain
Fill and hot wash
Drain
Fill and hot rinse
Dry
Drain finish

If the heater is not working it quite often gets stuck on that part of the cycle as it waits for it to heat.

fixed, was a small partial blockage in one of the pipes
