zebra crossings!!!

Yes I agree, you can,t get enough speed up to kill any one, can you..........................

i would have thought the answer to both posts 1 and 2 would be that they are placed there because that is where pedestrians are commonly crossing the road.

If the jcn is signal controlled, incorporate a signal controlled crossing there.

common sense but that wasnt mentioned.

in France and Spain the crossings seem to be away from junctions and they work ok...here you get a couple of people cross the road and cars build up on these little roundabouts that appear overnight!

does it slow the traffic down ???

no, thats the job of the poorly made and incorrectly installed speedbumps that are being installed everywhere.

Its also where car drivers are concentrating on looking for motor vehicles when leaving the junction or entering a roundabout, accelerating to join moving traffice and therefore less likely to be looking for pedestrians

oh i agree. it also means that the junction/roundabout often gets blocked by cars waiting for pedestrians.

but we are in the age of the green pedestrian, who now controls the road through the media and town planners eager to slow vehicles down at any cost.

some of these new smaller roundabouts are, fair enough, ok. But a lot of them go against the flow of the traffic and more likely to cause accidents.
Some are ridiculous.

In Nottingham they filled in most of the bus stops and put bollards next to others (Stops you going round the bus) so they could use buses as rolling road blocks!

yes thats a common sight round here too. i go round them anyway as long as there are no zigzags at the crossing of course.

i also crawl at stupidly low speeds if buses and police or camera vans follow me. childish i know, but its fun anyway. :D

Agreed. For example, a roundabout on a busy residential street which runs straight, with a T junction. Replace the T junction with a mini roundabout! It does not work! IMO, a roundabout has to be a certain size in order to work efficiently. Small ra's do not work! Even when they are block paved and painted white yellow blue and green!
