Bloody Brexit

What does more accountable mean?

Chuck them out and get a replica.

We disagree; I hope you are right.

Where do you think MPs come from? They're not made in a lab.
Not a lab, no, but the party machines churn them out.

You could become one if you wanted to!
Theoretically.

Prospective MPs do not get chosen unless they have already proved they will toe the party line.
Very few slip through the net.

I would, therefore, have to be an independent and as such would have very little chance of winning.
Even if I did, I would be one against the establishment.

I will again refer you to Mark Twain.

You will, of course, note that they slipped up with the referendum.
However, events and procedures since seem to be ensuring that the result will not matter after all.

The thing is, until a few weeks ago, it didn't matter what the PM did in office.. He could make a complete dogs dinner of the country as long as he followed the EU requirement and be assured a cushy job in the EU. This option is now closed (Or should be) to them so they now have to do a little to impress whilst in office
Maybe I am too cynical, but it's been a long time since our MP's have worked for us or listened to us. I am concerned that without some of the more sane rules by the EU that made the UK better, our MP's will make things worse.
They do work for you but just like any employee, if you don't keep an eye on them, then they will take the mick.. It is our job to make sure they do their job... Would you just throw a wad of dough at a builder and hope that the job was done as you want it?

I'd be interested to hear which rules you're referring to?
Clean beaches, rivers, consumer protection, paid leave, work rest, cheap flights, equal pay (tho still not there 100% yet) for quick examples.
Equal Pay Act 1970? Holidays with Pay act 1938? Sale of Goods Act 1979?... UK regulations for Maternity leave are actually more generous 26 weeks than the EU demand 14 weeks.... Gee how did we exist before the EU came along? The UK also lead the EU on animal wealfare with Veal crates and Sow Stalls... You really shouldn't ask how those nice Europeans make Foie Gras or how they still use Veal Crates.. It could also be argued that cheap air flights are environmentally counter productive..And before roaming charges are brought up, I wonder how relaxing your holiday is when you are trying to relax by the pool with some Orange Dorris from Essex is screeching down the phone to her pal in the UK about how drunk she got last night and how many blokes she shagged... When I'm on holiday, my phone goes off, leave a message, when I'm abroad on business, the bill is tax deductible..

And my holiday, just because I mentioned it here will be with hellish people? Oh ok, sorry. Didn't realise that I am not capable of tasteful, quiet breaks.

I'm not going to defend any act by anyone. I was asked a question, I answered it.

Lol, yeah and don't they just. Expenses scandal anyone? Which is still going on, they're still ripping us off despite us knowing about it and the uproar it caused.
I'd rather have a bunch of sound people doing their best to do the job at hand, not ripping off the tax payer at any given op. Most people in this country do have to hope they get the job done by the way - not everyone understands how the country is run, how politics work so yeah, they do actually throw a wad of cash and hope the job gets done.

Edited to add.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise that you were an Orange Dorris from Essex....:censored:

Ok that's sensible.
Not from Essex, not orange and not called Dorris. Just thought I'd clear that up for you! :)

What the Euro troughers have scammed makes our MP's seem like rank amateurs, pinching a few coppers

I consider myself cleared up and well and truly told... But I hope that you get my point that cheap air flights and mobile phone calls are not a good reason to remain in the EU

Lol, never said they are good reasons! Was asked what sensible things the EU had done for us and I answered :) Nothing more, nothing less Mister.

And two wrongs make a right how exactly....?
No, two wrongs don't make a right but my point is that we should rely on Euro troughers because our own MP's have been caught with their fingers in the till is not a good argument because the Euros are really creaming it in... At the very worst, leaving the EU means we are removing one layer of thieves, and that is before we get to their ample salaries and perks...We pay for them but they certainly don't work for us and don't even pretend to
