Price for new boiler install

Most boiler repairers far prefer brass boiler parts.

The makers will say the plastic is ( nearly ) as reliable as brass. But for them it is cheaper and lighter in weight.

But all those who have been to repair a boiler where the plastic parts have split, caused leaking water damage and in most cases destroyed the circuit boards and often more, will realise that brass is far more reliable.

Metal over plastic any day in my book.

Some old boiler porn: my current setup, working perfectly fine I might add.. Shame to see it go.

Could the towerchron 2000 be a collectors item?

To be fair, Worcesters aren't exactly short of plastic either.

I was just showing that Vaillant have been doing some quiet cost cutting on ecoTEC; some here who don't install many may not have seen the differences in the newer ones out of the factory.

5 pages of useful advice which is then chosen to be ignored by an Internet warrior with all the so called best information at his Google driven fingertips. Why, if you are not willing to take on board the advice of us professionals, would you ask for advice on a professional site.

You obviously know a lot more through your Google searches than the entire collective knowledge of us guys on here so why seek validation? In fact from your extensive online training could you please spec the best setup for a 3 bed home requiring boiler and unvented cylinder please. Have a job coming up and you could save me hours in planning the best spec.

Your knowledge is biased to what you have been forced to believe is best by a marketing agency and has no proven fact in the real world. Please feel free to fit what you would like and good luck finding an engineer that is at the top of his game to fit your wish list that you want to buy yourself.

Point of fact to remember, a bloody good engineer will be able to fit a biasi, heatline, jaguar etc etc and you will have minimal issues. The biggest failure to all heating systems is the end user cutting costs, avoiding good advice and avoiding regular servicing yet we are here to take the brunt of the blame.

If you are so adamant that you know exactly what will work best for your situation then feel free to spend thousands getting the relavant experience, qualifications, tools and then proceed with your own install. I for one cannot wait to see the next thread from "jedi"

Installer won't come back cos new system is s**t and will not honour warranty!

I hope luck be with you it will.

If you want metal innards, mr Jedi, check out 'Ravenheat' as an alternative to WB, UK made, brass inside etc etc.

What could possibly go wrong.....

Patrick, I assume you went to a Ravenheat course with John Wilson? I attended their course last Friday in Leeds, and tbh I am impressed by Ravenheat and John Wilson.

They are both quite impressive.

But unfortunately when you get into more detail the problems start to appear.

Can anyone suggest how to measure the pressure applied across the APS for example?

Do you know what output the boiler expects from the APS ?

And how many know about the hidden grommet?

Erm, no I have not visited the company, my 'tongue in cheek' answer is based on meeting their product on site, and I can honestly say that the only way is up.....

Never fitted one, but it seems all manu's claim a unique selling point, eg country of manufacture, warranty length, brass hydroblock, price, length of maximum flue run etc what was Ravenheats?

It's seems this which is the best boiler debate is like a car forums which is the best oil debate. Everyone has there own preference, and will defend it to the death..

The people I speak to all lean towards WB, neighbours, friends, have them fitted, etc.. The ones with other makes seem to have problems. But more likely their engineer can't fix it properly.

For eg my next door neighbour has a condensing combi, but is reluctant to tell me what make for some reason? And sometimes you can smell raw gas coming out of the flue? Is this normal?

All boilers break down, all boilers have there issues. Some are known to be absolute shxt boxes.

Pick the boiler that you have the most confidence with, but it will still break down.

I normally find the customers that dither the most over which boiler to choose or how long the warranty is are the ones that then don't get it serviced or power flushed

Well my glowworm is 35 years old and that has ever gone wrong is the pump, and diverter valve in all that time... Nothing is going to beat that now is it?

I did my own servicing on it ..
Drained system every 5 years or so.. And usually take off all the radiators and flush all the black crap out..

And i get someone qualified to clean the burners and heat exchanger ;).

Still going strong..

That wiring needs some attention too. Standard twin and earth should not be in contact with hot pipes. On a positive note, at least the pump 'appears' to have been wired in heat resistant cable. There's also a box designed for wall mounting that isn't erm... wall mounted. Looks like you've had 'cheap' work done before and got what you paid for.

Yep I don't know what went on down there with that pipe work and electrics.. But you have to remember this was done 35 years ago.. So in those days it may have been an A1 job?... The box of electric connections was screwed to a joist but I had to remove it to replace the joist, and just left the pile of crap on the pipes where it belongs:eek:...making sure it wont short to the pipes etc...:whistle:Fitting a new combi will get rid of all that spaghetti junction of pipes I presume as it won't be needed anymore. I'm in the process of tidying up all the sh!te so called professional workmanship in the hall as I go along. Bearing in mind this was just a simple wallpapering job in the hall way, which has turned into :

New joists n floor boards
New skirting
New plastering
New radiator
And while I'm at it :
New boiler
And maybe new front door and 2 small windows.

Got a quote that I'm going ahead with as now is the time for a.:

WB Greenstar 32 Cdi combi compact
Flue
WB filter
With wave controller.
From accredited WB installer apparently?

£2888
But Apparently I can get a £800 grant towards it so makes it.
£2088

I should get 7 years warranty parts n labour, thats what it says on WB site?

I know its not the classic, its the combi compact, they dont do a 32 cdi classic anymore(y).

does anyone know more about this grant malarky??? Im dubiousd about it, they say its free in my area at the moment and not a loan like the green deal?

If its some kind of loan or tax hike in disguise, then i`d rather pay it all up front...
