Hard to see how that could happen if the plugs were properly fused, unless a flex was trapped under the bookcase, got damaged, created a L-N fault of about 15Ω, and 3.5kW started a fire before the fault got to a low enough resistance to cause a protective device to operate.

why don't people realise its a two way thing if an idea sounds crazy to them they should explain that its crazy and why
do people not have the common sense to realise if someone persists its because in general its valuable suggestion so they don't have the full story so need to be informed off all relevant facts to find the best solution
