My grandad got a colour TV first, and I remember watching the 1974 FA Cup Final. After that it seemed ages until we got one, but it must only have been a few months, because Dad finally got it for the Ali Foreman Rumble in the Jungle, so that would be October 1974.

It was 1979 we got our first colour tv (rented). I remember the day well when they delivered it. The old Sobell black and white valve job had died before then and we had a Pye black and white which got relegated to the kitchen when we got the rented Bush colour telly. I used to sneak downstairs after my mum had gone to sleep to watch shows in the kitchen like Mash and Monty Python (which she thought were stupid......she thought Larry Grayson was the funniest thing on tv which says loads really).

That may be a case of people confusing characters - after all Jack Dawkins (aka The Artful Dodger) did have a close relationship with Charley Bates who Dickens refers to as Master Charles Bates (Master Bates?)
