any ideas of a price for the removal of a large horse chesnut tree about 25 foot from buildings there is space to fell the tree in sections west yorkshire area near wakefield

cookie - had a larger Ash felled last year (London) for £250 by properly qualified tree surgeons, and it was in a 'complicated' position next and over a conservatory. They mashed everthing in their towed shredding tackle so cleared all the mess. Might be cheaper up where you are.

Are you in a conservation area, if you are then you'll have to get permission for any tree work from your local Council. If not in a conservation area check that your tree doesn't has a Preservation Order on it - many 'specimen' trees do. Big fines if you attack these and you then get 'grassed-up'; beware of the twitching net curtains, there's always somebody watching.

EDIT: they didn't mash the conservatory, not a scratch on it.

Yep, make sure it hasn't got a TPO on it, fine up to 20k I believe.

What size trunk?

lib - maybe 2'6" + at the base but then 'split' into 2 trunks, each of these being an equal size. it was monster. Because of it's shape (split trunk) the Council's Tree Officer said it wasn't a specimen tree and could come down - I had to involve him 'cos I live in a Conservation area. The other determining factor was it wouldn't really be missed 'cos of all the other mature trees in the garden. All this means every couple of years I have new Council Approval to have the tree surgeons in to do the maintenance.

Had three quotes for some treework last year - £110, £340 and £650. The 110 bloke got the job, did everything properly and as I wanted, and was a very nice bloke.

Its loik dis, tree tree fellas gave me tree quotes for tree work, Oi gave the job to one of de tree tree fellas, but wen dey turned up der woz only two o dem fellas, I sez wheres da udder fella, dey sez wot udder fella ders only two us tree fellas.
