Baxi Solo 2 50pf main burner not lighting"

When the system is switched on the fan works and the pilot lights but the main burner does not!! I've checked the pump is working plus all other controls. could it be the Gas valve.
Any ideas would be great.

Andrew see my thread below. I've had this problem on and off for years with the same boiler. My advice is don't pay out for any new parts yet. I've been ripped off with new gas valve, and other stuff, and I just needed the pipe clearing out with a vacuum. It works fine between hoovers. Until I get it done, I can bring the boiler on manually by covering 50% of the flu on the outside wall for about 2 seconds. Not a permanent fix obviously just an interim.

If you look through the glass panel can you see a spark? I am obviously getting some gas through but not enough to ignite the burner until I restrict the airflow

Before it is deleted it would help if you would explain what is dangerous, so I don't blow myself up. I realise that members post on this forum to get expert advice in the main, but I don't see anything wrong with 'ordinary people' discussing their experiences.

I thought I had made it clear, but instead of freezing my nads off, I get the boiler going a couple of times using this method whilst I wait for my gas fitter to arrive with his vacuum cleaner.

Rectification problems - partially blocked piolt.... electrode.

Phone a RGI (a decent one) to diagnose the cause of your problem. NEVER TAKE ADVISE FROM FELLOW DIYERS as by their advise, you wont see chrismas.

I'm still waiting for you to tell me what can happen if I partially restrict (marginally) the air flow out of the boiler for 2 seconds. And you are correct I have no idea how gas boilers work, that is why I am posting on this forum.

My CORGI is coming tomorrow, so hopefully he will sort it. I have my own thread on this, and it looks like it could well be the a knackered fan to flu gasket, if it's not **** in the main gas pipe, which is cast iron and apparently prone to rust.

Pilot lights but sparking stops. what would that be?
Still think it could be the main gas valve.

The pilot is coming on and staying on so established and sparking stopped so signal sent back to board.
so it would be a check to see if 240v at main solenoid if no voltage its the board if voltage its the gas valve

when the fan-flue gasket has perished, it allows the fan to blow some air bak thorugh the appliance, disturbing the pilot. depending on how badly the seal has perised this can result in no or intermitent pilot, delayed rectification from unstable pilot or plain intermittent lockout.

i always carry this gasket and frequently find this to be the fauls on the solo pf's. ill also change this on safety check visits as a matter of course.

get one of these gaskets and next time you see a solo, scrape out the old knackered gasket, refit the fan and see what the ignition is like.

Dont disagree how the fans on these can affect poor pilots but generally if pilot was getting pulled or not strong enough the ignition would carry on even occasionally sparkin which you could hear.
Simple test would confirm if gas valve faulty
