My pressure has been rubbish of late, and kept having to top it up.. After A few days i checked and noticed water gushing from by the pump... the coil had come off and pin with it.. . i reattached it, but boiler wouldnt fire up... Topped up pressure, bled rads, pump spins, doesnt ignite, but still cant get any hot water or central heating.....

Please any one any ideas???

Hopefully one of our experts will be along soon to help you. Not sure what you mean by 'coil and pin'.

You seem to have been aware of a problem with your boiler for some while.

You could have called someone out yesterday and had it fixed for Christmas. If you lived in our area you could have called us and we would have been able to fix it today!

As you have not dealt with the problem then if you dont have it working over the holiday then I would say that you only have yourself to blame but its only a few days so I am sure you will survive.

oh thanks for that Tony..

You can always rely on Tony to state the bleed*n obvious in his usual own way

Didn't the bloke on rogue traders say that he had to replace the coil? he turned up with a diverter valve which oddly did not solve the problem of a non firing boiler.

So, my guess is the OP is talking about the DV.

I cannot fully visualise this boiler but I still think that its probably a four pipe main HE with no diverter valve.

Expansion vessel failed or needs repressurising.

See FAQ on this site!

The expansion vessel is at the back of the boiler against the wall.

The FAQ are a topic listing on this site in the plumbing section.

Dont do it yourself - get someone in, cos that boiler I think needs to come off wall - all depends on clearances and how its situated on wall - think is ya could knacker ya prv up as well if its constantly passing!

Tecky dude, whats a PRV? nightmare is this boiler.. May sound daft, but if they move it from wall, can they put it back there, as apparantly new laws state you have to have em moved if going out into a passage......
