Recently my external gas meter had a slight leak. The gas company fitted a new meter. No problem...I have just moved into my present house.I could not help noticing that the gas supply, from meter to boiler, runs through house & is done in copper tubing.....Is this ok...? I just thought it should be run in iron tubing....The external pipe has no protection against mechanical damage.....Is this ok...I got trouble sleeping at night...The gas run goes through loft to drop to boiler in kitchen. This has recently been installed...Please advise....Thanks.

Copper is good for gas.

External copper pipe work does not usually need external protection.

thats all ok. can be run outside your house in copper without being protected if you want.

It may be worth painting it with bitumen paint if there's a problem with metals theft in the area. A neighbour of mine went outside one morning and smelt gas. Someone had used a hammer and chisel to steal about 8 metres of 15mm copper, leaving the open pipe emitting gas to the atmosphere.
