Banging noise from Expansion vessel

any idea why there should be a sort of cracking sound from an expension vessel on an unvented cylinder?
makes the noise as the hot taps are tuned on & off

dunno about cracking. But you can get a vibration noise if the dynamic pressure is significantly lower than the expansion vessel pressure. The solution is to measure the dynamic pressure at the taps then set the expansion vessel pressure to match.

it's just doin it as the tap is either opened or closed, not while the tap is running

yeh it will do, because there's a big change in pressure as you open or close the tap, once its stabilised it will be fine.

JUST MATCH THE AIR PRESSURE TO SUIT THE WATER PRESSURE!!!!

(I always find it best to accept advice, especially when i have asked for it!)
