Hi
I have recently fitted a new staircase and removed the old understairs cupboard, I want to fit a wall socket on the new exposed wall, the problem i have is that the other side of the wall is the down stairs toilet so no power in there, then the other side is the living room and a socket is available to run a spur, but can i run one horizontal above the skirting board and up in to a new socket, or should i channel out the concrete floor to run it from the living room?

Any ideas on what is safe, i will know where the wire is but the next ocupant may not, and i thought you had to come up from the floor or down from the ceiling, but in this case its impossible.....

Thanks

missing a pic there BAS...

by "sheds" he means the DIY "sheds" like B&Q, DO IT ALL, Focus DIY etc....

Why "Ban All Sheds" (I`m sure you must have been asked before) ?

I don't like them - they have destroyed the traditional hardware stores, electrical stores, decorating stores etc where you used to be able to find people who knew what they were selling, understood their products, and could give good advice etc, in just the same way that Sainsbury, Tesco, Asda etc have destroyed the traditional butchers, greengrocers, bakers, fishmongers etc.

They are staffed by people who don't have a clue, and shouldn't (but sadly do) give advice, and their buyers scour the world for the cheapest and most profitable tat they can put on their shelves.

Can`t disagree with that.

Mind you there are also some pluses.

Nothing wrong with these places. It's the ignorant morons who go looking for gear without doing any research first and then expect to be spoon fed technical advice from people who are basically unskilled shop workers.

Ban, WRT to supermarkets, there are staff who know what they are talking about. I pride myself on my product knowledge and excellent customer service. Unfortunately, I'm few and far between!

you may well do, but I doubt that even you know the details of every single item you have on the shelves

In gen (not just sheds) , showing my age.
I remember when most folk behind a counter were sharp as knives, could add subtract and knew where most stuff was and how it worked. Pretty gened up.

Nowadays without a calculator or a computer they are flummaxed.
Mind you even with them one wrong press and they do not twig its an error!

"Two tins of beans at 37p is £5000 Mrs Smith" wheras most often we work out an approx in our heads and know the price is "in the parish or not"

Sign of the times methinks

We had multiplication tables up to 12 x 12 hammered into out foreheads
