Hi, Just realised i had run out of oil when my daughter complained her shower was cold, im new to all this, but could some one tel me how to bleed my boiler, as last time i ran out, i had a boiler engineer to do it for me and they were very expensive and only took 5 mins to do, is it possible i could do it my self, as the boiler will not fire up. There must be air in the pipe!

You will need tools a 4mm alllen key and a certain amount of knowhow, this is what you paid your service engineer for, if you get the procedure wrong you could cause a lot of problems, best to pay your service engineer to sort it out, If he had been that expensive, then you certainly wouldn't have run out of oil for a second time???

Cause of oil run out = Poor housekeeping

could take 5mins or 5 hours depends on a number of factrors.oils not very forgiving when run out.give me gas anytime.when i get a call from a customer saying they've ran out of oil i cringe,cause i know it can either be an easy bleed or a right pain.

Hear Hear!, got callecto a Hotel in Norfolk a while ago, Hotel Boiler vented in seconds and up and running, 2nd boiler in managers house (on same tank) no oil, dissed flex, no oil, filters clear no oil, had to use compressor to blow out oil & crap and then start again, 11-00Pm got bloody boiler going, but 75 Mile drive Home, oh Joy!!!!

You have reset the burner lockout haven't you? (Press the glowing red button on the burner itself) If so and it goes back to lockout again then try once more but if you still have no joy after that then call in the pro.

Many thanx mikeyd, big help couldent find the button for a while, it was well hidden under the front pannel, and hardly vissible. The "lock out" light on the front of the pannel wasent lit anyhow so wasent sure why it wouldent fireup, but after pressing the little red button underneeth the pannel( Which wasent, and wasent able to illuminate either, it was only a very small red plasic switch, i went ahead and pressed it anyway ) it imediately fired up, not sure what the problem was but it seems as if its solved for now anyhow.
