i have a triton electric shower and it has stopped working and i need help..
you can turn the pull switch and the electric light comes on, and the light also comes on on the shower unit, but when you turn the dial to start the water no water there... there isn't even a noise ..

please help... what does it sound like is wrong with it?? could it be the pump??? will this be expensive to repair??? will it be cheaper to just buy a new shoer unit???

thanks everyone in advance..

Hi
If its an electric shower then it wont have a pump, how old is the shower, is it in warranty?

Triton are cheap & nasty, 99% of plumbers don't repair electric showers , the cost of parts (even if you know which ones to replace) outweigh the price of a new shower.

Scrap the Triton and get a Mira, far better quality. I think you can pick one up in B&Q for £100.

Where are you in Yorkshire as I know a good plumber near me.

Actually, some electric shower models do have a pump.

nicola1101 - the most likely cause is a failed solenoid
valve, but it could also be a loose connection.
If you reveal the model of the shower unit then
it will be easier to help you.

Don't take any notice of people who say it's cheaper
to fit a new shower - this is hardly ever true.
And if 99% of plumbers can't repair them, it's because
99% of plumbers are stupid and lazy.

solenoid valve has failed. you can do a resistance test on the solenoid valve in its failed state using a multi meter.

what triton is it ?

plumbers that won't repair electric showers because they are unsure how to diagnose faults with them or they are out for an easy job and make a few quid.

as for the cost of parts most my customers are over the moon if i can fix their electric shower as in solenoid valve for the sake of £15 rather than
write their shower off and buy/install a new one and give them a £200 bill.

A plumber dealw with water supplies and drainage.

The inside of a modern shower used electronics and technologies a plumber is not likely to be familiar with.

I could repair a shower but the reality is that many fail because the input connections cannot stand the current.

Furthermore I woul charge our standard repair charge of £84 plus say £14 for a new solenoid and thats pretty close to the cost of a new cheap shower.

I would not even fit a NEW triton after they totally unhelpful attitude they displayed when I fitted one of their shower pumps and it failed after just five days and I was forced to buy another make of pump and fit it on a saturday to keep the customer happy.

Totally avoid anything made by Triton is my advice. Apparently surveys show the same experience by others in the trade when I am called for my views on showers.

You can't possibly buy and fit a Triton solenoid valve for £15 AND make a living out of doing it.

That's just misleading nonsense - overheated connections are caused by installer error.

there is only about 4 main common reasons for a electric shower to fail.
solenoid valve, heating elements, stabilizer valves, prd's.
apart from that poss the odd pcb.

so thats £98 maybe close to a new shower bottom end of market.
but then labour to fit it.

i don't know many people that fit solenoid valves alday.

they're not making a living out of the solenoid valve its the labour.

Many of the cheap shower units I see have miniscule terminals and conductors to carry 45A.

45A needs about 10 mm² to safely carry the current !

You don't sound competent enough with electricity to be advising people on power dissipation.

Can you name a cheap shower unit that draws 45A?

Yes, quite few actually,

Have you heard of B&Q?
