I think it's worth paying a few extra quid on a boiler cos more money can equal greater reliability (and longer life). Trouble is you still have to know the right make!

I still want a hot water cylinder.............what do you recommend lads?
 
I don't want a combi cos I still want to use the cylinder, lets forget the installation cos that is a variable...............a good boiler aint
 
Any higher end model of the better makes has a pretty good chance of running problem free for a long time, IF installed and maintained by the book. Poor installation and lack of proper maintenance is the cause of death for most boilers, not lack of quality of the machine.
