I'm having a new CU fitted and rang western power to find out about having the service fuse pulled and they apparently now just come and fit an isolator instead which makes sense.

They couldn't give me a price until I book it which sounds odd so I was wondering if anyone knows the cost of this service?

Hi, i cant answer your question but i would suggest you call Western several times and eventually you should get an answer. I recently called Western to find out the supply characteristics to my house, what the ZE rating was what type of earthing etc. It took 3 calls to find someone who had the slightest idea of what i was after. I was then told it would take a site visit, then two days to get an answer, eventually after much push back by me i got an over the phone answer today.

They should be able to give you a cost for this job, they have done it before, its just getting through to someone who is not just a call centre operator.

ok mate thanks for your advice. I will need to talk to them anyway because the cables coming from the meter to the CU look well dodgy and I have purchased some 25mm meter tails to replace. So hopefully they'll fit the isolator and change the tails.

If they are fitting the isolator, they will (should) provide the tails from the meter to the isolator. Aything after the isolator is up to you to fit.

STI - They have no record of the majority of sites, no earthing types are logged, no Ze's or PSC's, not even the fuse rating.

A few sites do have records, but not homes.

The Ze and PSC can change through the life of an install due to network alterations etc, they typially will not log this.

A site visit is usually required.

It is also very rare for them to recieve calls from people to ask this info - sparks can tell for them self when on site.

I suspect you where told the maximum Ze expected, and not your actual Ze.

Personally I don't think I would trust an answer obtained like this, IMO there is a high likelyhood that someone just guessed to shut you up.
