Fitted RS part no 240-1231 1 S/steel large actuated pushbutton switch

My mistake but it is momentery switch, I need a switch that latches.

it has a minature or sub-minature switch that just clips onto the back of the button unit so is there any chance of just swapping this for a switch that would latch???

My problem is it has a 30mm cut out, which has been cut out, most latching switches seem to be 22mm.

Cheers

Think I will need to go with that, That is the best looking switch I can find. The Vandal resistant ones look so much better though, why don't they make them latching instead of momentery?

Because if the switch was latched by vandal then it would be necessary to physically go to the switch to un-latch it. A momentary switch causing a relay to latch allows for remote un-latching of the relay without the need to visit the switch

Latching relay, that's what the RS tech help were advising but they didn't call me back with an option

SO what kind of "LATCHING RELAY" would suit me??
I'm switching 240vac.

Thanks very much for all your help.

You can turn any relay into a latching relay providing it has a normally open contact that can be used to do it. The NO contact shorts the NO make button; you need a NC break button in series with the relay to switch it off.

Let me get this right.

I have a momentary action button fitted, I need to fit a relay to keep the power latched on when pressed. I need ANOTHER button to turn it off??

yes as Stoday states,
its just like a motor starter with start/stop buttons.
its a very simple circuit, live out to N/O button, momentary make sw.line back to relay A1 coil term. A2 coil term to Neutral.

So pushing button energises relay, makes 2 sets of N/O contacts.

one set connected in parallel across push button wires EG Live & A1.

So once energised coil is held on by that contact. It will stay on until supply turned off which can be done with a N/C push button in line with either Live to or sw. Line back from remote button.

The second contact being used to control whatever you want, (which you didn't tell us)
