Can anyone please advise what a limit stat is? Can something be reset and if so how? Unfortunately, we have been without hot water for two days, not that the landlord seems to be bothered. At least the weather is not too bad and I'm heavily pregnant so the heating is not a necessity. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Boiler make and model would help.
The high limit stat has probably tripped, but they do that for a reason, and re-setting it may not do any good.
Get onto the landlord, or the letting agent, and if that don't work the Council.

It's an oil boiler Firebird Combi 70.
have to ask the obvious question
is there oil in the tank

There is a reset button that looks like it could be illumated red but it isn't on and it says 'only reset twice'.
Yes silly question but always one that has to be asked!. There is about half a tank of oil available.

Usually when I put the hot water switch on the boiler starts up but it's doing nothing
