Hello,

After a little bit of a flicker of my kitchen light early today, I have just switched them on again only for them all to to fail. In addition, the lights in the hallway, the bedroom and bathroom have also failed, but not the ones in the lounge.
I have checked the consumer unit, but all switches are showing on and don't appear to have tripped.
Could it be that just one of the bulbs has gone somewhere breaking the circuit or is this a fuse or bigger problem.

Thanks

It's likely that the wiring has worked its way loose somewhere, or has been damaged in some way. If you only have a single lighting circuit fed from one breaker and some lights are still working, that would suggest the fault is not in the consumer unit. If there are multiple circuits then it could be a fault at the CU, or anywhere inbetween there and the final room on the circuit.

sounds like you could possibly have a loose wire at one of the light fittings.
A bit of investigation is called for.

Are the switches in your consumer unit labelled?
How many lighting circuits do you have?
Could you open the light fittings to see the wires behind?
If so, look closely (but don't touch copper bits) to see if any wires have come out of their terminals.

If you can, taking photos of the wires before you touch anything might help.

thank you both for your replies.

The wife was up in the loft yesterday so I suspect she may be the culprit.

Will check the wiring and come back to you.

in the meantime though, thanks.
