system will not turn off it ignores all controls could it be the cylinder stat and has it become faulty

more than likely one of the 2 port valve micro switches is stuck on, but you havent given enough information to give any thing other than a guess.

instead of giving information in little bits why dont you tell us what boiler you have , what type of controls , vented cylinder or unvented, anything else playing up (like programmer flashing)or anything changed recently, or anything you feel might be important

the boiler is aback boiler it has a room stat cylinder stat and two channel programmer when heating or hot water are turned off on programmer ie lights are off the pump still runs and seems to overide the boiler stat it continually runs , the room stat or cylinder stat do not make any difference the only way to stop it is to cut power.

That is a totally unfair question. How is the op supposed to read the make and model of the back burner when there is a fire in front of it?

look under the fire there is normally a data plate attached to the bottom of the boiler
