I know folk on this forum dont like Ideal boilers, and now I know why.

In mid December 09 my Ideal Isar boiler started leaking water quite badly. Luckily I have an Ideal Warmsure 12 month warranty contract so I managed to get one of their plumbers out to look.

He claimed to have carried out a repair but told me the expansion chamber had gone, but it is a two man job so would have to return with someone else another day.

The weeks went by and I heard nothing. I made numerous phone calls to Ideal who promised to ring me back with a repair date, but they never did. In all, I went 6 weeks without heating or hot water. I then rang them to complain and managed to get them to send someone out that day. Only to learn from their plumber that the first guy had lied to me as replacing an expansion chamber is only a one man job.

I now hate Ideal and Im even thinking of replacing my boiler as I dont want anything to do with them ever again. Not sure if I should try and get a partial refund of my anual warranty fee.

Ideal!. More like 'Far From Ideal'!!!

I would suggest that you should be able to get some type of recompence , 6 weeks with a non working boiler as per your posting is not acceptable , I installed a boiler (not Ideal) were the manu' took 7 weeks to get off there backsides , & repair the boiler under warranty , I shall be filing a county court claim against them shortly , for a number of expenses incurred , & because I dont like being taken for a fool , you would need to see what type of small print you have on any policy you have , but even in the absence of any service level agreement e.g we will repair your boiler in 48 hours ect , it would be fair to say that the insurer / manu' would need to deal with the fault in a timely manner with efficiency , & with reasonable skill.

Where are all the ideal supporters ...like IONLYFITIDEALBOILERS and the rest of the disinformation crew

Those who its seems are employees of ideal and have been sent on forums to shore up support for them and their wonderful package of boilers

I think most of them have run off with shell shock realising what a dire product they have and cant defend the indefensible

Sounds a very common and familiar statement from customers with Ideal boilers these days.

Sadly I have removed a few now that had had it like yours at around 3-4 years old.

  the 'IDEAL' solution i have is to get rid, the same story here , replaced a fair few due to customers getting fed up of constant problems pcb,pcb etc sure others would agree.

Turns out it wasnt lucky at all

Tell me about it :)

On the plus side, I think I paid about £100 for the 12 month service contract, so perhaps Ive made my money back already (apart from the hassle they have caused me)

Incidentally, how much do you think It would have cost me to have a new expansion chamber fitted, had I not been covered?

i would be blaming the engineer from warmsure for not diagnosing the fault properly

i would class changing an expansion vessel on an isar as a two man job. you have to take the boiler off the wall. i have done it myself in the past but its not easy on your own.

seems the office staff are more to blame, assuming the fault was properly reported to them.

ideal isar blrs are 1 of the heaviest wall mounted combis out there.

that t£$t who said it is a 1 man lift is a k*&t.

Ideal have far too much work an not enough engineers fact.

they can't expect there lads to go to 10 jobs per day and do 150miles as well.

I work for a plumbers merchants and used to deliver these to site all the time. I would say they are one man lift i used to chuck them on my shoulder and carry them.

Most site's i deliver to now don't use ideal anymore. I wander why!!!!!!!!!!

You dont need to wonder, the same reason as everyone here is telling you and the the sales at your counter, the truth is out there

A huge scam run by Labour cronies going to select company who have used sub standard equipement with some very questionable installs has bought us to where we are

The sooner this Warmfront scam is over the better, the legacy will be around though for many years apparently the needy will be paying though through the noses to have these sub standard Ideal boilers for years.
Eventually Britsh Gas and others will take it off their lists for home cover realising these sub standard boilers are costing them too much money to repair
All boiler manufacturers rely on spares sales to make the extra income and yes we know parts will break down eventually, but the failure rate on these is horrendous

I can honestly say as an independent heating company I would never inflict this kit on my worst enemy .How someone can stand there with a straight face and recommend an Ideal boiler to customer is beyond me ,they cant have soul!!

Who are you HE-MAN!

Must admit, I sadly and embarrasingly fitted over 100 of these  but everyone I always lifted fitted on my own.

Even took several into the lofts on my own.

A bit heavier than most but not a problem really.
