Hi All

Hope you can help me with my problem

I live in a 2 bed Terrace and having some issues with some Plug sockets. Theres two plug sockets behind the TV and one of them works??

The issue I have is the boys room upstairs. They also have a double socket but what they plug into it...it trips all the plugs off. but when you look at the circuit board it still showing ON and not off? strange?

Could someone help with my problem?

Is it a double socket, that only half works? If so, buy another one. If there are two socket plates, and only one works, check the connections on BOTH and tell us what you find. All connections should be tight and there should be no loose cores flying about. Turn off the power before opening, as live things can come loose and spring back at your skin.

"It trips all the plugs off"

So what exactly is tripping, and how do you resolve the issue to get them working if it isnt at the consumer unit? Is there any appliance in particular? Or is it just anything in this socket?

I'll have a closer look at that one. When looking at new sockets there's two types DP and SP? do you which one i should go for?

The Trip switch (Plugs only) on the circuit board. The way the issue is resolved is by switching the Trip Switch on/off (Plugs). Because its the boys room the only thing they plug into that socket is there Laptop. I'll be honest they use a multi Socket. 4 way. One Desktop Light. One Clock and the laptop charger...

Try plugging in an appliance that is not normally plugged into that bedroom socket..i.e.an appliance from another room in the house.

If there is no trip ,then either the extension lead or one of the appliances plugged into it is faulty
If ,on the other hand,it trips then contact an Electrician to investigate further.

What brand is it? Some brands will appear to be "halfway" off during a fault. They need switching off, then on again, as you describe (i think). What is the exact writing on the item that trips? Does it have a test button?

Its not a crime    I have about 6 in use in my house right now! As long as you stick to low power stuff you're ok, they are certainly better and safer than those ghastly socket doubler/tripler cubes.

I nearly missed your reply to my first qestion as it was embedded in the quote. SP is single pole. DP is double pole. It refers to the switch on the socket - whether it just switches the live, or switches the live and neutral. Clearly the latter is better, double pole.
