Is it correct to seal walls before tiling?

Easy lads,

Whats the conclusion? pva or not, i dont mind paying for the correct products, even i am sometimes sceptical of the manufacturers trying to get one to spend all your money on their total solution,
Can some one tell me exactly what to buy, bal products seem popular on the forum for their quality,
I would like to use a flexible adhesive as a bit of insurance against any further movement even though i believe the movement ceased many years back.
A list please lads!

you say in your first post."large tiles"..how large and what type of tile?

your weight per m2 will be 20kg for a plastered wall, also take into consideration adhesive+grout 4kg per m2.

prime walls with bal..primer/apd/sbr follow m.i. regarding ratios.
or you could use mapei primer G,again follow m.i. for ratio.

for adhesive it will have to be bagged addy, again bal or mapei is my preffered..again depends on what type of tile your fixing for what adhesive and colour of this said adhesive? and again for your grout bagged flexi....

so what size/thickness/type off tile are you fixing to walls?

I though that was made quiet clear.

You are right to be sceptical but only in as much as you can get similarly specified generic products; the technical advice will be correct, they cant afford it not to be I’ts legally enforceable.

I use nothing but BAL but there are other products equally as good.

Not really necessary in your case but if it makes you feel comfortable.

I see Tictic has beaten me to it but I’ll add a BAL choice
http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/primer or
http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/prime-apd
http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/rapidset or
http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/rapidset-flexible depending on what tiles are & your concerns about flexing
http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/microflex or
http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/microcolour if you want colour; but IMO white always looks best in most cases.
