What is the easiest and least messy way of cleaning some fairly large splashes of paint from a bare brick fireplace. I have just finished decorating a room for a client and he has asked me to clean all the old paint from his fire place. I do not want to use a mechanical wire brush as it will make too much mess. Any ideas.

Presume its emulsion? How about boiling water on a sponge repeatedly until softened then "pick" it off. Proffesionnals will answer later as i am onlyD.I.Y er good luck

Depends on the kind of paint

Oil Based - Nitromores or similar

Water Based - Scrape the top off; hot water, scrubbing brush and elbow G

You could get the client a little excited and tell them it would great sand blasted.

Tape a dust sheet round the fire place get underneath it will take 10 minutes.

If it's emulsion then meths or meths/water work quite well but it'll be in the rough surface of the brick so I can't see any great success.
