If a spark is using a MEGA on a CU in a kitchen above and to the right of a sink, does he have to be registered with NICEIC or one of the other bodies?

Just in a kitchen? I'm a little confused :?

Also, I assume you mean he's carrying out an Insulation Resistance test?

Also, Megger (not Mega) is a brand name, not any test in particular.

You know as well as I do, that rightly or wrongly megger has come to mean IR test in just the same way as you probably hoover your carpet (but never electrolux it ;) )

We'll not mention the old skool clair test :P

Is this to do with Part P in some way, that the electrical work is being done in a kitchen but not on a circuit feeding the kitchen??

Spark was fault finding in a kitchen where the CU is located. He had a borrowed MEGGER.

The faults were flickering lights, MCBs tripping and other various intermittent faults.

He was not a domestic electrician and all I want to know is should he have been doing this fault finding?

Which test(s) was he conducting?

Why do you think he would need to belong to a certain organisation to fault find?

Is he competant?

1. What tests do you do with a MEGGER?
2. If I knew the answer, I would not have asked the question, would I?
3. I never set him any tests so do not really know the answer to your question.

There's no need to be funny about it.

With my Megger I carry out the following tests:

Continuity
Insulation Resistance
Ze
EFLI
PFC
RCD
Measure voltage

If he's an electrician then he should be capable of testing and basic fault finding.
If not then he's not an electrician.

1John obviously understood and answered the question.
