My time here isn't valuable and I like to help people otherwise I wouldn't post.

I also understood your question and alerted you to the fact that Megger is a brand. You now know that so I don't see what harm it caused other than you learned something.

There's certainly no need to get all mardy about it and use the 'rolling eyes' smiley.

1John obviously understood and answered the question.

Please remember this is a DIY forum, not an electricians forum. I promise never, ever again to ask a question in the electricians forum. Sorry to have taken up your valuable time.

Unless something has been deleted that I didn't get a chance to read, I can't see what (in this particular post, at least) has led you to form such an opinion of us electrician types.

If this was in response to GaryMo's questions, I'm not sure what more you want, he's told you everything you wanted to know.

1john told me everything I needed to know when he said,

I cant see why not, he is only fault finding.

Everything else was superfluous.

Will I now get flamed by all the electricians on here, when in the past I have defended them and their excellent advice (BAS excepted  )?

I guess I will.

Nope, you're not going to get flamed, at least not by me anyway!

However, although the information may have appeared superfluous, it was provided in the same vein that had you asked what size MCB is required for a 10kW shower, we may have answered the question and also pointed out the cable size necessary for such a load, even though this wasn't part of the original question. We're only trying to be helpful.

Point taken.

But I bet I still get flamed.

If a spark is using a MEGA on a CU in a kitchen above and to the right of a sink, does he have to be registered with NICEIC or one of the other bodies?

If you want to avoid sarcasm, try asking questions with relevant information.

Or perhaps I have misunderstood, "above and to the right of a sink" what was the relevance of this information?

The question was/has been answered fully and comprehensively. What is the relevance of your enquiry now?

I think the issue here has been of the term mega/megger, where this is a company which produces test equipment which will do ANY electrical testing, in days gone by, certainly before I owned a toolbox, van and thermos flask, thet made a device for insulation testing with a windy handle to produce the required voltage for the insulation test, hence the term, megger.

*this is my understanding of it, i stand to be corrected if wrong on any points.

Lets all be friends, life is too short, we all make mistakes at times and can all learn something new on all subjects.

:)

Just wondering why you accuse people of sarcasm, when the confusion is caused by your inability to explain yourself in english.

Am I bovvered?

Who did I accuse of sarcasm?

1John understood the question, which bit did you have trouble with?

To provide 'detail', I imagine, something that is always welcome when trying to answer or decipher posts.

Unbelievable, I will have to remember this invaluable lesson.
'when testing a cu its important to know whether iits on the right hand side or the left hand side of the sink'. I wonder why ther's nothing in the regs about it?

Thankyou very much, you learn something every day.

The op is asking a question about something he is unsure of, and can only ask the question in the way he thinks is best.

Johnmelad, have you got a favourite smiley?

Sparkwright, "in a kitchen above and to the right of a sink" - what could that information possibly have to do with his question?

Does his think the answer would differ if the consumer unit was in the living room? Or the hallway?

Surely the basis of the question was if an electrician had to be registered with a competant persons scheme to carry out his job.
Also, the more I read it, the more ridiculous it sounds.

Cue smiley.
