I was chopping a hole in a wall in the kitchen to take a new socket, and I found some buried conduit.

"Hmm," I thought, "wonder where that goes?" so I started working upwards to expose it.

And lo - I then found this, so started digging out sideways too:

Oh that's nice:

Let's have a look at this lovely junction box they buried - it appears to be made of the finest polythene:

The cable was disconnected at both ends when I found it, and as dead as a dodo, but obviously this was not always the case:

Not used image shack for a long time - it really is shockingly slow!

Use some free, no registration required host like tinypic.com - it provides thumbnailed clickable links and full size links.

As this work is in a kitchen it is notifiable to your LABC BEFORE you start the work. You have broken the law already. I suggest you speak to your BCO rather promptly before you carry out any further bodging.

What is the extra socket for? From where will it be supplied? Can the existing circuit take the extra load. What cable will you be using (and what installation method)? What are your earthing arrangements? Is your bonding up to spec? How will you test the addition? How will you explain your bodging cowboy work when solicitors start asking questions at house sale time? (By lying, I assume)

As you don't care about THE LAW, I imagine you aren't going to be bothered by some silly little non-statutory regulations like BS7671, so it doesn't really matter.

You are a criminal, and a danger to yourself and others. Please refrain from boasting about such on here.

Actually, since all I've done is cut a hole I probably haven't.

I suggest you get used to the idea that I'm not going to follow your suggestions.

What is the extra socket for?
A cooker.

From where will it be supplied?
From my CU.

Can the existing circuit take the extra load.
n/a.

What cable will you be using
10mm² 6491X.

(and what installation method)?
B.

What are your earthing arrangements?
TN-S.

Is your bonding up to spec?
Yes.

How will you test the addition?
With a continuity tester, insulation resistance tester and a loop impedance tester.

How will you explain your bodging cowboy work
Please provide evidence that anything I have done qualifies as bodging cowboy work.

Feel free to take the opportunity to try and make yourself not look like a fool.

Do you have any rational grounds for assuming that?

You should see about getting a new imagination - your existing one is broken.

Please explain how posting photographs of what a previous occupant has done counts as boasting of anything.

Or you could just host images free of charge in your album on this forum, and take advantage of the fact that it makes inserting images into your post very easy using the...

Looks as if the terminals may never have been tightened properly. Assuming this was part of a ring final, even with the large anticipated loads in the kitchen, I'm surprised to see that the terminal blocks have melted.

To be fair, BAS, you should have anticipated this sort of response. While I really don't care whether you do or do not notify work in your own house (although let's not get too much into my opinions on part P), it strikes me as more than a little hypocritical that you openly admit, or at least imply, that you'll be carrying out notifiable works in a kitchen without informing the BCO. Had Jess Bloggs turned up and proposed doing the same thing, I'm sure you would be the first to belittle her.

That is, unless you're getting into semantics with regard to the fact that Steve doesn't seem to be able to spell 'notifying'.

1) The image hosting facility on this site sucks - there's no alternative to thumbnails, and when the images pop up they obscure the post. And unless everyone always posts small ones, there's a noddy size limit.

2) It is not as quick and easy to use as the simple drag and drop that Imageshack (and I hope alternative hosting sites) offer.

And those blocks were on the cpc....

As far as I can deduce it used to run from a cooker control switch to a socket. If I'm right it would once have been 7/.029 on a 30A 3036.

Hey, that is a genuine typo.

And photobucket dont charge. They dont have annoying popups. They dont use incredibly slow servers. It took ten seconds to download one of ban's pictures, all the while using 4 meg of bandwidth, I can only assume imageshack was downloading something nasty onto my PC in the background. I only looked at one.

I keep forgetting that they allow children on here.

Absolutely not, and I challenge you to find any evidence that I ever have.

My attitude to Part P etc is that people should be fully informed of what it requires, and then make an informed decision on what they want to do. (Professionals excepted).

that "conduit" that you've dug up looks like it might be a gas pipe BAS.. ..

are there any gas outlets near where it heads?

What kind of socket are you planning to install?

You haven't mentioned RCD protection (or testing thereof), are you aware of the regulations in BS7671:2008 regarding concealed cables? (Or, like part-p, do you just ignore them?)

Do you know how to safely and correctly use that test equipment, and is it in cal? (and I don't mean checked on a poxy 'checkbox')

So, other than lying, how do you plan to deal with any questions about electrical work (or bodging) when you come to sell the house?

Oh, and get some decent tiles.
