no power to shower - help!!

Our shower recently stopped working, I presumed it was a fault with the shower and replaced it. Got a couple of uses then stopped working again, then after a couple of days started working and then stopped again.

The shower has a pull switch which when on shows a red light but there is no power light on the shower when this is switched on.

I suspect I may have changed a shower when there may be a problem somewhere else?

I have also recently taken off the pull switch and re-tightened all the terminals and now, there is a dim light on the shower (when the pull is on), but this goes out when the shower is switched on and still no water.

Can anyone suggest anything? Should I change the pull switch?

pull cords knackered. probably burnt connections in the pull cord.
