Are meter tails meant to be protected by RCD if buried beneath plaster?
Meter tails need to be run from outside meter housing to CU in utility but utility will be plastering, buring tails - so if they are not RCd protected its against regs aint it? But if protect with RCD will have against regs situation in fact that if fault on one circuit it'll trip all circuits

How long will the tails be?

Can you run the tails in the ceiling void?

Or in boxing?

What route are you proposing; is the cu near the meter?

Bad idea having tails protected by an RCD (which in this case would be 30 mA) as a fault somewhere or a blown lamp will cause you to have no power in the whole house.

Even with an RCD, no one's gonna want to accidently drill through cu tails.

If distance is 3m+ then tails to switch fuse adjacent to i/c head and meter then SWA to CU ?

If they're buried at a depth of less than 50mm then cover them with a 3mm steel plate. No RCD required.

it is very preferable not to bury or conceal them. Put them in trunking.

It is also permissable to install meter tails in the cavity. With a hole the size of a meterbox it is easy to install tails without damage.

The NHBC have detailed this too.

Just passing though or running up the cavity?

Running up cavity.

Now I think about it, I think the wording may have been removed in the 17th - something like "With the exception of meter tails, not cables shall be installed in wall cavities."

The NHBC guide states "No cables other than electricity meter tails are to be located in the cavity of an external wall."
