No you are not :)

Fan on a boiler has an electric motor , on an atmospheric boiler it's function is to discharge products of combustion to out side (fumes) in most cases via a negative effect (suction ) , which would mean that if the casing on the boiler is not air tight air is drawn in as opposed to fumes coming out !

However on some older boilers the fan exerted a positive effect on the boiler eg air was drawn in from outside which caused a pressure in the boiler casing which in turn forced products of combustion out , the down side to this was that if the casing leaked fumes ect would leak into the room , Not good !

Than of course there are the fans that are fitted to pre.mix boilers which also control the gas output to the boiler!

Thank you transam. does it have an electric coil? to power the motor an how does it work exactly.? ;)

It's an induction motor identical to the one washing machines use for a pump.

Now google induction motors and learn to help yourself.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, show him how to fish, feed him for life.

My rule is if they haven't the intelligence to google the basic subject matter first they don't really have enough intelligence to understand our answers either, so if we asnwer at all, we must leave them some work to do by leaving the answer pointed at rather than concluded.
