Connecting earth to gas pipe

The bonding connection has to be accessible and visible.

Visible? Really? Please tell me where it says that?

Yeh quite right, its much better to hide the connection beneath floor boards so no one will know where it is and it can never be inspected. Where would we be without you dingbat.

My earth rod isnt visible unless you open the lid ( its in an little "inspection" Chamber ) So should I remove the lid

And where would we all be without you, Holmsy, the forum's regular comic relief?

So, you suggesting the stairs must be open-plan, or that the pantry door has to come off?

Accessible is a requirement. Visible isn't.

There's a difference between accessible and visible.

The former is a requirement, but I don't believe the latter is, although if you can show that it is...

Its called an earth pit, strangely enough they always contain earth rods.
Indeed they do, and the rods they contain are accessible for inspection, but not visible unless the cover is removed/opened.

Should they be visible?

If I handed you the book could you read it without opening the cover?
No, but the pages would be accessible.

...'required to be accessible for inspection, testing and maintenance purposes'

Which kind-of means that if it's not already visible, it needs to be able to be made visible easily :)

Oh, pur-lease!

Firstl, we all know what is required (okay, most of us), so don't go and add in unnecessary extra wording.

Second, if you're going to quote, don't 'think', just copy out:

132.12 Accessibility of electrical equipment
Electrical equipment shall be arranged so as to afford as may be necessary:
(i) sufficient space for the initial installation and later replacement of individual items of electrical equipment
(ii) accessibility for operation, inspection, testing, fault detection, maintenance and repair

Naturally, in order for equipment to be 'accessible', you need to be able to find it, for instance by opening a cupboard, removing a hatch, opening an enclosure, or going in the loft with a torch. The word 'visible' adds nothing to this requirement except the misleading notion that it should be in plain view, which is clearly not only impractical, it's almost impossible to achieve.

Let's not use any more words that are open to misinterpretation.

Hold up... we can put an screwed earth clamp under a floor board, but not a screw terminal junction box?

Yes/no.

The accessibility requirements are just the same - it's a screwed joint whether it's a JB, chock-block or earth clamp.

Or if you plan ahead (or don't mind cutting into pipes) you can use these to allow you to crimp a bonding conductor.

It was a quote, dingbat, from Pg 60 of GN8 :) Word for word!

Using the word 'think' was just my way of expressing my point.
And what extra wording am I adding?

Which means that under a floorboard with no ready means of access isn't acceptable :)

Dingbat and bas probably think the moon is accessible.
It is, but not easily.

OTOH, it is frequently easily visible.

You give the appearance of understanding the difference between "visible" and "accessible", and you've provided examples showing how something could be the former, but not necessarily the latter, or the latter but not necessarily the former.

So what point were you trying to make with your sarcastic reply here when dingbat asked JohnD where there was a stated requirement for the connection to be visible?
