Hi there,

Our neighbours flue for their condensing boiler terminates near our garden, there is always a enormous plume even if it ain't so cold...anyway what seems to happen is when the boiler fires up there is a definite smell of gas for a few minutes which then goes away.

I've seen the boiler before and all I know about it is that it's made by Vaillant, around 11-12 years old and it's got a red LED display with green buttons. It was apparently very expensive when it was installed 11-12 years back but they got a grant.

So, should I be telling them to get the boiler checked ASAP?

The burner on that age of boiler is a series of hollow bars with a small jet supplying gas to each one.

The spark ignition electrodes are on the left and sometimes not all the burner bars light initially so unburnt gas is ejected from the flue.

Sometimes this is as a result of an incorrect ignition pressure. Othertimes a partially blocked mixing tube inside the bar where gas and air are meant to mix.

Interesting, so do you think this boiler is probably nearing the end of its life? 11-12 years for a condensing combi boiler doesn't seem too bad, it's been repaired twice IIRC.

Going through david937 post i would say he is a cleverer than average troll who also posts under a regular name and knows how to word questions in just the right way to get a reaction

Morning David,

I'm afraid Agile's got it wrong on this one, your neighbour has a rare, early ECOmax 824/828 E. Basically the same as the later one except for the control box. The smell of gas would suggest a gas valve fault - do a local tightness test.

Apart from blocked hose issues, the boiler is a rock and should be around for a least another five years.

If nobody else offers I can scan a copy of the MI s later, for you.

Agile is obsessed with peoples identities and you seem obsessed with accusing everyone of being a troll. I can assure you he is not, and I think you owe him an apology.

beerlover is right with the boiler. Could just be delayed ignition. nothing much to worry about i'd say. not much you can do about it either if its your neighbours!

He also propositions people to go with him for a curry. Weird. :(

Thanks, I think I'll tell them to get it sorted out. Why is this boiler so rare anyway? Where there only made for a short time?

really

want to post the quote where david propositioned you water systems

or is your old fuddled brain incapable

Don't now why they are so rare - transition boiler? I know Vaillant haven't even got one in their training rooms.
