Megaflow lost pressure..

We had a megaflow system and new boiler fitted less than 3 years ago. All was well with great water pressure in the bath and shower. Over the last few months, we have noticed that the water pressure has dropped quite a lot. Any ideas?

Does it effect all tap outlets hot and cold, including your kitchen cold water tap?

Could be your problem or an area distribution problem.


Have you contacted your Water Authority, it could be they have a problem or they have deliberately reduced the water pressure to reduce pumping costs / water leakage? They may tell you porkies though

Speak to your neighbours as well to see if they have noticed a change.

Any new developments recently been finished locally?

Don't suppose you are able to measure your water pressure and water flow rate at the Kitchen cold tap ? - that info may help.

Could be a blocked strainer on your Megaflo inlet control valve group or a faulty pressure limiting valve or a valve failure or a valve partially closed or another blockage.

If you cannot determine what the problem is you will need to get a plumber who is approved and listed for carrying out unvented system works to look at it. Also if any of the components on the inlet control valve group / Megaflo need taking out/replacing get an unvented system approved plumber in. Do not carry out the tasks yourself as you are not permitted to do so and it could be dangerous to do so.

Have you recharged the internal air gap, it's usually that. Megaflo's "mask" lowish mains peessure by holding pressure internally. The instructions are on the side of the can. Invlolves standing there holding a knob for quarter of an hour.

could be the filter in the multi functional valve is blocked up

get a G3 qualified person to give it a service and you'll be apples

The air gap inside the Megaflow will hide a mains FLOW problem ( but not a mains presssure problem ).

To reform this turn off the mains water into the house or just the cylinder and ( usually ) just turn on a bath tap until you hear air gurgling and it all goes quiet!

turn off cold mains stopcock.
turn on all hot taps.
hold temperatur/pressure relief valve on cylinder open until tank stops 'gurgling' and waterv stops flowing from tundish.
turn taps back off.
turn mais on.

remember the hot taps will splutter for the 1st few minutes of use.

Can it take much longer. Mine has been going for an hour!
There is a tiny trickle coming from the tap, and slightly more coming from the relief valve.
As far as I can tell the mains tap to the tank is completely off.
Also the water coming from the tap is cold, but from the relief valve is hot, but not as hot as if you run the hot tap inside under normal circumstances.
It's a 210 litre tank.

SOLVED!
I phoned the help number on the tank. My problem was that my lowest hot water tap was not lower than the base of the tank (my tank is downstairs). I had to attach a hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the tank. Once I did that I had instant gurgling which lasted about 10 minutes, then finished following the instructions and all is well.
