Hi All

Posting in the hope that someone can help. We have a Keston Qudos 28s boiler that keeps stopping and showing the fault code 'E80'. This is not listed in the manual and I cant find any info when searching online.

If I turn off the power it does reboot and seems to work but only for a short while till the code appears again.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Not sure exactly how old the boiler is. The house was purchased 18 months from a developer who extended an existing house including the new boiler. I know it took him nearly 3 years to complete. So its between 2 and 4 years old. How long does the warranty normally last?

not sure but prob 2 yrs. A bit less than how long most kestons last. Your best bet is to give keston a ring and see if they can give you an idea. just had a look in a few different manuals for their boilers and none showing an 80 code.

cheers micky, likewise ive done a search online and would of thought something would of shown up with e80 error but no. Ill give them a call tomorrow though I imagine I will get we will have to send an engineer round response

the fault relates to - flame sensed at the incorrect time during initial start up sequence
job for a rgi im afraid

i've not seen the qudos yet, can only assume its got the same quality components as their other efforts. electrodes and pcb suspect i imagine.

Worst case scenerio how much would a pcb board etc cost to fit? Funny enough since this problem has happened and Ive been searching online for a solution, I have noticed a lot of bad reviews regarding Keston boilers.

yeah not much of a keston fan myself i have to repair these heaps of junk on a daily basis

keston are yet to make a decent boiler imho

micky if you ever need any of the keston fault codes that are not in the service manuals i will have them please let me know should you want them:?:

likely fault with the op boiler is due to a dodgy electrode often caused by over firing and poor cumbustion but it could be something totally unrelated as said needs a decent rgi to have a look at it

cheers mate. I see alot of C25 boilers round my way. What a piece of junk they are. Also look after a couple of the bigger units with the £350 fan ! the model number escapes me right now... Recently had to nurse a C36 combi back to health and I can't remember seeing a boiler so badly put together. Actually thats a lie, the trisave turbo probably trumps it by a hair, but its a close second.
To the op. Keston boilers over the last 10years have been nothing short of appalling. As i told my customer with the C36, do not spend alot of money on it. If something expensive needs doing, rip it out. I dont know about these Qudos boilers but if past history is anything to go by it will prob be a dog.
Where are you based btw?

Thanks for the replies. Micky I am in Harpenden.

I am going to call Keston later see if they will tell the fault

Quick update:

Phone Keston and they said it needs a new circuit board. Bloomy boiler only had just 14 months of use. Anyway despite being most probably older than 2 years since installation, they are coming out under warranty this friday to replace.

thats good news, you get your first pcb under warranty. Maybe if your nice to the guy who comes he can leave you a couple of spare ones, some electrodes and some burner and fan gaskets you'll no doubt need them sooner or later.

That sounds ominous Micky. Anyway I'll see if I can throw him a few quid for some spares. Is it worth joining something like British Gas homecare?

Was you local Micky?

I'm in ware, Harpendon is a bit out of my range for repairs. I would definately join a service scheme if i were you. Keston spares are notoriously expensive. Your pcb will cost around £180 just for the part. I would go with BG or ask Keston if they do one. The comment about asking for spares was more tongue in cheek, but you never know! you dont ask you dont get :D
