I am thinking of installing a sink within my (detached) garage for cleaning muddy boots etc. For this I will need to install a new foul waste pipe and a fresh water pipe for a distance of about 8 meters. I know the foul waste is notifiable and needs to conform to part H of the building regs but I cannot find any information on fresh water pipes.
So I would like to know if there exist any regulations covering the fresh water pipe, or can I install it however I want. Specifically would it be permissible to put both the fresh and foul pipes in the same trench and if there a minimum spacing required? There does not appear to be any information in part H regarding spacing of fresh and foul.
What I would ideally like to do is tee off the main supply pipe between the meter and where it goes into the house (the meter is on my land and is only about 2 feet from the outside wall of the house, It would be easier to tee off the other side of the meter but I know that won't be allowed for obvious reasons). I'd rather not dig up the kitchen floor if I can avoid it.

Speak to your water supplier.

When I replaced a lead supply Severn Trent had standards the new pipe and installation had to meet.

As said above, check your local water supplier website. The problem with water is it all comes under local byelaws and they can be different depending where you are.

Laying water supply and drainage in the same trench is not normally possible due to the fact that drainage trench is to falls and is not normally same depth as water service.
It is generally accepted and approved by all water companies that underground water services should be laid at a min of 750mm deep, with a 25mm bed of sand directly under the pipe, 25mm sand directly around and above pipe, 75mm selected back fill, then back fill up to 300mm below ground level, warning tape and finish backfill.
Point of entry into building to be through 100mm plastic duct 750mm below ground either through footings, foundation or below foundation, 87.5 long radius bend then 100mm duct up to finished floor level 750mm out from external wall face and with the MDPE pipe lagged in duct down to bend. The 750mm out from external wall face is not critical as long as you lag pipe.
Of course none of the above applies if you do not notify water company. If you notify, there is a good chance they will want to inspect. If you do not notify, do what you want.
Would suggest finding existing supply to check whether existing is cast iron, lead or MDPE If it is the two former, you can get fittings to connect to MDPE.
News to us that water service comes under Local Byelaws.

All the local water company regs are now encompassed in 'Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999' as any decent plumber will tell you!

(That tells you that most on here aren't plumbers but heating techies)

If you want to avoid having to have the Water supplier inspect your installation you should use an Approved Plumber or go on a course and then DIY.
