Floor tiling - Residual floor adhesive reemoval?

After removing some horrible laminate flooring in preferance for floor tiles we have found the concrete floor covered in 10 inch square tiles. About 3mm thick and they are brittle but do come up easily.
Underneath there is the residue of the adhesive which is black. It is not sticky at all but was wondering if it is ok to use the tile adhesive without any other prep??

ARRRRG, for gods sake use a quality trade adhesive not DIY shed crap or it could all end in tears.

Tiling over old bitumen based adhesive can be problematic; ideally you should get it all off but this is often nigh on impossible unless it’s gone rock hard. Whatever you do don’t start using solvents on it to wash it off as it will soften, become active & your tiles will never stick.

Use an SBR based primer & a flexible powder cement adhesive.

Thanks Richard,
I have learnt that trade paint is well worth the extra so makes sense to use trade products in tiling too. Especially in difficult problematic area such as this.

The black stuff is rock hard and i cant shift it unlesss using a bolster to chiv it off and as its a big kitchen diner area i am not really wanting to do that!
